The Most Popular Sporting Events

Are you someone who loves your sports? If you are, then you can have a great time in the US. There are a huge number of sporting events in the country, and the most popular of them are in baseball, basketball, and hockey. Millions watch these events on television, and if you are extremely lucky, you could get tickets to watch your favorite team and players live in action.

How Sports And Sporting Events Are Structured In The US

Sports in the US are so popular that it has become a part of the national culture. The games that are widely followed are quite different from the other countries. For example - soccer, which is hugely popular all over the world, is not that big in the US. On the other hand, the sports popular here such as baseball, basketball, and hockey and not widely followed all over the world.

Sports are also organized differently in the US. In Europe, the most popular sport is soccer and there are clubs that are privately owned. The leagues follow a system of promotion and relegation. But in the US, there are city based franchises that participate in annual leagues and playoff tournaments. These are the most popular sporting events here. Universities, colleges, and schools also take active part, and there are separate sporting events, which are big events as well in the US. International sporting events are not that popular here.

Baseball: Of all the important team sports in the country, baseball is the most popular. And though there are several leagues such as the college league, youth league, high school league, and others, MLB or the “Major League Baseball” remains the most popular. Two league events are held every year – American League and National League. There are 14 teams in the American League and the National League has 16 teams.

There are 162 games every season. The MLB event begins in April every year and ends in the month of October. The most popular team is the New York Yankees that has won as many as 27 World Series titles. Next to them is the St. Louis Cardinals with 10 titles.

Basketball: Another sport, which has always been very popular in the US, is basketball, and the most important event here is the annual professional league that is known as NBA or “National Basketball Association”. This is one of the four major league based sporting events in the country, the others being NFL or the “National Football League”, MLB or the “Major League Baseball” and NHL or the “National Hockey League”.

There are 30 city based franchisees in the NBA, and each team must play every other in the season. The games are held on a home and away basis. There are 82 games in total, in a season that starts off in November. In February however, the event stops for a while for the yearly “All-Star Game”. The players for this mega event are selected by the public, through votes.

Hockey: The most popular event of this sport is the ice hockey league that is organized by the NHL or the National Hockey League.

There are 30 city based franchises that take part and 24 of them are in the US and the other 6 are from Canada. At the end of the season there is a playoff champion and the trophy is known as The Stanley Cup.

NHL is popular not only in the US and Canada, but also in many other parts of the world. Players from as many as 20 countries play for the different franchises. The most successful franchisee is the Montreal Canadians that has won 24 titles, and they are followed by the Toronto Maple Leafs who has won 13 titles.

The games can be watched on TV. But, watching the games live at the stadium is a completely different experience. So, no matter whether you love baseball, basketball, or hockey, you should purchase your tickets from an authorized online ticket broker to watch your favorite team in action. But do get your ticket early, because most of the games are often sold out.
