June 7: In a winner-jumps-to-MMA mega fight, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Miguel Cotto fight to a draw. Both decide to become tag-team partners and join WWE.
June 13: Yankees at the Astros.
June 14: Newsday's Ken Davidoff spots the "retired" Roger Clemens having lunch with Hank Steinbrenner at Drexler's World Famous BBQ and Grill.
June 15: Newsday's Ken Davidoff reports that Roger Clemens will re-sign with the Yankees.
June 16: A photo of Alyssa Milano and the Angel she is dating appears in the sports section as the Mets face the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in a night game that will not make any newspaper in the Eastern time zone.
June 17: Celtics, unbeaten since April 14 loss to Knicks,win NBA title.
June 26: NBA draft: Thomas selects Tyler Hansborough of North Carolina and compares him to David Lee.
June 27: Subway Series opens in the Bronx
June 28: Knicks trade David Lee traded to Orlando for "future considerations."
JULY
July 3: Red Sox at Yankees.
July 5: Stage One of Tour de France.
July 6: Two cyclists test positive for steriods.
July 9: Knicks conclude an unbeaten run in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.
July 13: Mets beat Rockies to increase their lead to 15 games at the All-Star break.
July 14: Yankee Stadium hosts the first steroid-free home run derby. Ross Gload defeats Jose Reyes for the title.
July 15: All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium.
July 22: Twins at Yankees. Johan Santana pitches a no-hitter. We just don't know yet for which team.
July 25: Yankees at Boston.
July 26: Giants camp opens. Michael Strahan is a no-show.
July 27: Baseball Hall of Fame inductions. A gang of unruly grey-haired men wearing blue caps with B's on them are asked to leave after booing Walter O'Malley.
AUGUST
Aug. 8: Opening Ceremonies in Beijing, where officials believe if necessary they can manipulate the weather over the stadium to prevent rain (seriously).
Aug. 9: First doping scandal of the XXIX Games
Aug. 10: Newsday's Neil Best reports in his blog that Olympic TV ratings are the lowest since the invention of TV.
Aug. 11: USA upset in basketball.
Aug. 12: USA wins a surprise gold medal in taekwondo
Aug. 13: Second doping scandal of the XXIX Games.
Aug. 17: Olympics closing ceremony: a stirring salute to the 83 remaining athletes who did not test positive for a banned substance.
Aug. 20: Braves at Mets: Glavine, Jo-Jo Reyes and Royce Ring combine for a no-hitter.
Aug. 26: Red Sox at Yankees.
Aug. 28: Final Red Sox-Yankees game at the Stadium.
