GRETZKY'S GOT GAME

The Great One goes from tee to green to capture 1st Place at Nationwide Tour Pro-Am.

Heath Price-Khan
May 19, 2008

This past weekend at the Nationwide Tour’s BMW Charity Pro-Am in Greer, South Carolina, Wayne Gretzky proved he can navigate a golf course with the best of them.

“The Great One” teamed with former University of Arizona standout Chris Nallen to win the Pro-Am title in a better-ball competition with a staggering total of 46 under par. Number 99 and his partner played four stellar rounds of golf scoring 59-59-60-62 en route to a two shot victory.

With the win, the Coyotes Head Coach earned a BMW Z4 and $10,000 for the charity of his choice.

That was not the only honor Gretzky took home over the weekend. The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) named their centennial all-star team and the NHL’s greatest ambassador was a unanimous selection.

The panel of 56 writers from 16 different countries made Gretzky the only North American player selected.

Joining Gretzky on the team were forwards Valeri Kharlamov (Russia) and Sergei Makarov (Russia), defensemen Borje Salming (Sweden) and Slava Fetisov (Russia), as well as legendary goalie Vladislav Tretiak (Russia).
