Carrying Austin Dillon's Camping World Truck Series champion's trophy -- which had just been put on display at a midnight photo shoot at Homestead-Miami Speedway with fellow champions Tony Stewart, who won the Sprint Cup title that night, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr., who claimed the Nationwide crown on Saturday -- had everything to do with that.

NASCAR Chase officially down to Stewart and Edwards

The battle is now officially down to Carl Edwards and Tony Stewart and the only way for either to clinch the title is an outright win. Just 19 points separate Kevin Harvick and Carl Edwards in first and Jeff Gordon in ninth. This is the result of NASCARs new, incrementally smaller points system. For now, anyway.
Kurt Busch, ninth after last weeks race, is now third thanks to Sundays win at Dover. Two wins were enough to propel Tony Stewart from last to first, but a 25th at Dover knocked him back to third. And Jimmie Johnson, hes not done. One second-place finish vaulted him from 10th to fifth, just 13 points back with seven races still to go.

Keselowski wins at Pocono with broken ankle

LONG POND, PA Keselowski's cousin lost a friend who was one of 30 American service members who died when their helicopter was shot down during fighting in eastern Afghanistan. The NASCAR driver took the sacrifice to heart, and vowed he would not leave his car no matter how bad he hurt.
So Keselowski went out and raced all 500 miles of the Sprint Cup stop at Pocono Raceway with a broken left ankle.
As if that wasn't enough, he somehow managed to win, too.

Less than 100 laps into Sunday's Kobalt Tools 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Busch blew a tire. A few laps later, he blew an engine. And just like that, the Las Vegas native was out of his hometown race. In between those incidents, overzealousness on the part of Kurt Busch sent him spinning.

NASCAR's new scoring system proves not so simple

Charlotte, NC NASCAR's simplified new points system turned out not to be so simple after the first full weekend of racing.
Carl Edwards left Daytona International Speedway as the Sprint Cup Series points leader. Landon Cassill heads the Nationwide Series standings, and Clay Rogers is atop the Trucks Series standings.
None of them won a single race last weekend.

Auto racing’s military sponsorships questioned

Ganassi sweeps top spots in Rolex 24 at Daytona

Charlotte, NC NASCAR is replacing the complicated scoring system it has used since 1975 with a more straightforward format.
None of the changes for the 2011 season announced by chairman Brian France at the NASCAR Hall of Fame on Wednesday came as much of a surprise. NASCAR officials had been briefing teams for almost two weeks on the changes in an effort to give competitors feedback on the direction being taken.

Atlanta, GA Jamie McMurray likes the idea of switching to a new points system to determine the NASCAR champion.
Specifically, one he actually understands.
"The points system we have right now is really confusing," McMurray said Wednesday during a promotional stop in downtown Atlanta, where he posed with the 2011 version of the trophy he won at last year's Daytona 500. "And not just for the average fan who watches the race. Everyone in our sport is confused by the way our points system is right now."

CHARLOTTE, NC NASCAR is considering scrapping the points system it has used since 1975 in favor of a simpler method that awards points per finishing position, The Associated Press has learned.
The overhauling of the system is one of a handful of changes NASCAR is considering implementing before the season begins next month. Series officials have been detailing their ideas in individual meetings with teams, a person who attended one of the briefings told The AP on Monday.

Johnson edges Bowyer by a whisker to win Talladega

Dale Earnhardt Jr. got the checkered flag.
Maybe they should go in the NASCAR record books as co-winners.
In a finish that matched the closest in Sprint Cup history, Johnson edged Clint Bowyer by about a foot to win a Talladega two-step Sunday - a victory that wouldn't have been possible without a big push from Earnhardt.

Busch captured his fourth win in seven Nationwide racesand 47th of his careeron a day when tandem racing produced a series-record 56 lead changes, 11 cautions and two red flags to clean up all the debris.
